I don’t think those who are voting to de-fund Planned Parenthood are actually confused about what goes on in neighborhood clinics. The doctored videos and distorted talking points are intended as distractions, so that supporters of Planned Parenthood spend their energy waving fact sheets instead of something more effective. The real issue is that the white heterosexual male patriarchy feels their power slipping away. Obama was elected. Obama was re-elected. Hillary Clinton might get elected next. Same sex couples are marrying. Legally.
Planned Parenthood serves women, the poor, the LGBQT community. Heterosexual men represent a very very very small proportion of their clients, although certainly, they benefit indirectly when women take responsibility for their own health.
Bluntly put: The people who are lying about Planned Parenthood and going after its funding don’t care about the facts, other than the fact that Planned Parenthood helps individuals who have historically been marginalized gain not only health care, but agency. That is precisely what they are de-funding: agency.
